A time capsule into the 1990s would provide a few things. You’ll see as many people wearing Addidas as, well, now. You’ll probably hear Firestarter by The Prodigy blaring over any speaker you walk past. But you’ll also be taken aback at the cost of everything compared to now. Specifically, your nights out in London won’t burn a hole in your wallet quite like they do now.
London clubbing haven Ministry Of Sound might just have their own version of this definitely-made-up (definitely) time capsule that I speak of, since they’ll be celebrating their 33rd birthday by turning the clocks back and slashing tickets and drinks prices to 1991 levels.
Ministry Of Sound at 1991 Prices
For the next 12 months, Ministry Of Sound will be releasing more than 20,000 tickets at 1991 prices – which equates to just £5 a pop! For each event they run over the next year, they will be putting up 200 of them for the cut-price cost, so be sure to snap them up when planning your big night out to enter the ’90s time capsule.
Ticket prices aren’t where it’s all going back in time, either. For selected events, you might just get your hands on some drinks prices that don’t look at all familiar in the London landscape as we know it. This year also happily coincides with 30 years since the Ministry Of Sound got its alcohol license, and so we’ll be seeing some spirits and mixers slashed down to £1.50 -£2.50. Between the ticket price and drinks, your fears of coming home and baulking at your bank account can be lessened, and your fun on the dance floor can be heightened. Now show us those moves.
Coming up in the next few days following the news are two special events (‘one for freshers, one for the legends’) that will throw it back to 90s drink prices with Bacardi slinging rum and cokes and the club throwing it back to the ’90s. Catch Grove Armada behind the decks on September 28, before the close of the opening week for universities takes place on September 30.
200 £5 tickets will be available at each Ministry of Sound night for the next 12 months. Find Ministry of Sound at 103 Gaunt Street, SE1 6DP (nearest station is Elephant And Castle) and check out their website here.
