Get ready to putt your stuff on south London’s newest mini golf course, which heads to Greenwich Peninsula this July.
Designed by artists Lee Baker and Catherine Borowski, this quirky course is inspired by nature; giving a playful nod to the lovely wildflowers that once thrived in the area. While Wild Swing Mini Golf won’t quite provide the same benefits as being in actual nature, the hope is for it to inspire a deeper connection to the natural world, and bring some joy and colour to an otherwise concrete space.
According to Baker and Borowski’s website, “it’s been shown that a 20 minute walk in nature is enough to significantly improve your mood and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. However, as nature becomes less available for many in urban environments, it’s also been shown that exposure to simple PICTURES of nature has a positive effect on the mind.”
As a response to this, together they founded Graphic Rewilding and have been creating cheerful, flower-inspired artworks in urban, lacking-in-green spaces ever since.
Running from July 18 right the way through to September 29, you’ll spot this sporty installation in Greenwich Peninsula’s Canteen Courtyard, right by NOW Gallery.
It’s suitable for all ages, from entry-level to expert, meaning it’s also a perfect activity for kids in London during the summer holidays.
And the best part is that it’s super cheap to play, costing just £2.88 per person (including clubs and golf balls, of course) – and under fives go free. You can book your slot here.
This colourful play space is not the first of its kind to arrive in the city. You’ll also find a stunning, patterned maze in north London, which similarly combines art with play. Read more about that here.
