But the Michelin star street food is here for three days only.
Street food in London has been quietly raising the culinary game for a while now. However, things are about to kick up another notch, when the a Michelin star-winning street food chef sets up residence in Kings Cross once more. After an incredibly popular appearance last year, Chan Hong Men, affectionately nicknamed Hawker Chan, is coming back to London to serve his award-winning Singaporean food – and we can’t bloody wait.
The queues for Hawker Chan’s famed soya chicken and rice dish were frankly ludicrous last time, so it’ll be a dedicated foodie who can get their hands on this year’s offering. Fitting, given that 2019 is the Year of the Pig, Chan will be serving char siew pork and rice, and we’re betting it’ll be an absolute knockout once more.
Hawker Chan’s Singapore eatery made food history in 2016 when it was awarded the first Michelin star ever given to a street food vendor. Handily, this also made it the cheapest Michelin star food in the world, which explains why hordes of tourists and locals alike flock to the tiny hatch. His jaunt to the Big Smoke—in partnership with Singapore Airlines, Singapore Tourism Board and Changi Airport Group—is expected to be a similarly busy affair, with only 300 portions on offer each day.
Unlike last year, when Chan was flying solo, he’s bringing some equally gifted friends this year. A Noodle Story, whose Singapore-style ramen has earned a Bib Gourmand (one step below a Michelin star), are also setting up shop – although once more, there’s only 300 servings of noodz to grab each day. You’ll find the highly delicious duo at KERB in Kings Cross for three days only (March 6-8th), between 11:30am and 2:30pm. At £6 per dish, it’s a friggin’ steal, but you will have to outmanoeuvre the competition to get it – handily, the rest of KERB’s Kings Cross market will be waiting, so should things go ill, you can nourish your disappointment with some other street food…
The Singaporean duo are in residence from Wednesday 6th March to Friday 8th March. Find KERB Kings Cross in
