Located on the very edge of Folkestone in Kent is Mermaid Beach; a serene stretch of pristine, pebbly, picture-perfect goodness, named after the rather eye-catching coastline that it boasts.

Quite possibly the most beautiful beach in Britain (a very bold claim, I know); Mermaid Beach is home to a jaw-droppingly unique rock formation that resembles the shape of a mermaids tail. So, if you fancy feeling as though you’ve been transported straight to the middle of the Mediterranean when you are, in fact, just 90 minutes from the chaos of the capital city – this might just be the perfect place for your next dreamy day-trip from London.
Sitting, swimming, and soaking up the sunshine is – of course – thirsty work. But luckily the Mermaid Cafe (not exclusively for mermaids, fear not) can be found nearby, serving up food, drinks, and some pretty sensational views, too. The beach is also just a short stroll from Folkestone town centre. This charming coastal spot is filled to the brim with cute cobbled streets, artsy independent shops, and plenty of places to eat, drink, and be oh so merry.
Getting to Mermaid Beach from London
Mermaid Beach is approximately a 90-minute drive from London and there is parking available nearby. It’s an even quicker journey for non-drivers, though. Londoners can hop on a speedy service from St Pancras International to Folkestone Central. Mermaid Beach is then just a 10-15 minute walk from there.
