It’s not every day that you see a horde of hot air balloons floating over the city at sunrise.
Now, you might be accustomed to seeing dawn from the post all-night sesh side, but if you’re the kind of relentlessly healthy, well-adjusted person who sees it from the other side, then you’ll have seen something special yesterday morning: an incredible balloon regatta soaring over London. Yep, it really happened, and here’s the proof:
Early on Sunday morning, a flock of hot air balloons soared through the skies…
…as part of the Lord Mayor’s annual Balloon Regatta.
Almost 50 balloons took to the skies just after 5am…
…starting at Battersea Park and floating serenely over Battersea Power Station.
The wind blew them eastwards, hugging the southern bank of the Thames…
As they floated past the Houses of Parliament, the Shard, and over to Canary Wharf.
Meanwhile, most of us were still in bed (it was a Sunday morning, after all).
As per tradition, the epic convoy of balloons was led by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress.

The event is all to raise money for charities chosen by the Lord Mayor…
…and it’s managed to raise over £250,000 since the first balloon regatta was held in 2015.
As British weather is so damn flaky, they have to set aside four different dates for the event…
And having blown through the first date (along with all the 2018 dates last year), things were a little up in the air (bah-dun-tish!)
Thankfully, the weather came through this time, and the regatta went off without a hitch.
The balloon regatta made for a dreamy sight…
In fact, we’re kind of wishing this was a more regular occurrence.
Anyway, we’re already looking forward to next year!

(Maybe we’ll actually get out of bed in time…)
