If you’re even slightly as fond of speedy and sustainable cross-country train travel as I am, I come bearing some news that will be right up your street train track. An all-electric train company has officially launched a brand new service that will whizz passengers across the entire length of the country for less than £35.
Dubbed the ‘Ryanair of trains’, the low-cost locomotive comes courtesy of Lumo; a budget-friendly company that is well-and-truly transforming train travel across the UK. The company already ran direct (and all-electric) services between London and Edinburgh, but a route extension to Glasgow Queen Street was approved back in September by the Office of Rail and Road. And now that route is officially up and running.

Lumo’s London to Glasgow service
The reliable and affordable new service links London and Glasgow via the likes of Newcastle, Falkirk, and Edinburgh. Tickets between London and Glasgow will start at a rather jaw-dropping £33.10 (a drastically lower price than other rail providers offer) and tickets between Newcastle and Glasgow will start from an utterly gasp-inducing £10.90. It turns out that cheap and cheerful train travel does, in fact, still exist. Who’d have thought it?
The highly-anticipated service seamlessly links the two beloved UK cities in under 5 and a half hours. And passengers can sit back, relax, and watch the gorgeous scenery whizz by as they do so. The new rail route will boost connectivity between England and Scotland, offering a far more accessible alternative to the options that were previously on offer.

Being a budget-friendly trainline, there are no first-class carriages or buffet cars on board. Baggage is also restricted to one small bag and one medium suitcase per person. But the cost is low and the customer satisfaction is high – so, what more could we possibly ask for, really?
