We all love London, but these months before Spring starts to make an appearance and after the festive cheer has well and truly left the city are probably the hardest to get through. It hasn’t helped that the rain has been incessant this winter. So, if you’re looking for a quick escape or planning your summer holidays already, we’ve got just the thing for you.
One of the UK’s last sleeper trains is one of the best ways to get down to the Cornwall coastline, which makes for the perfect break from the hustle and bustle of London life.
The Night Riviera Sleeper train
This sleeper train departs from London Paddington six days a week, with trains departing from the London hub at 23:45 from Monday to Friday and 23:50 on Sundays. The journey takes about 8.5 hours, meaning you’ll arrive at the Cornwall coastline at just before 8am.
If you’re worried about getting a good night’s kip on the train, becuase let’s face it, trains aren’t known for their comfort, there’s no need to stress with this train. Great West Rail, which runs the service, promises comfortable cabins kitted out with everything you’ll need from plug sockets, a sink with a tabletop and stoeage space under a bottom bunk.
There will also be an onboard lounge for those who want an evening tipple or a late-night snack during the journey. And if you’re anything like me, once you’re in your PJ’s, there’s no getting you to socialise with other humans, you can also order room service ot your cabin.

This town, which sits in western Cornwall, is known for its gorgeous coastal views and being within easy reach of some of the area’s best beaches.
Places to visit include Penzance promenade, where you can enjoy views over St Michael’s Mount and Chapel Street, where you can easily enjoy an afternoon ducking into the cafes and boutiques that like the street.
Penzance is also home to the largest saltwater lido in the UK, Jubilee Pool. Its quirky art-deco design draws swimmers from across the UK, so you’ll want to add having a dip to the itinerary.
If all that wasn’t enough to draw you in, last year the town was put on a list of Britain’s 7 Best Beach Towns to Visit by National Geographic Traveller.
