London has just been named the 2nd best destination in the world – beaten only by a tropical island in Indonesia

I come bearing yet another shiny item to precariously shove into London’s jam-packed trophy cabinet. And today’s accolade comes courtesy of the lovely lot over at Tripadvisor. And more specifically: their annual Travellers’ Choice Awards. Having had a rather thorough rummage through the reviews and ratings left on the site last year, the travel platform has just dished out its highly-coveted ‘Best of the Best Awards’.

These global awards strive to seek out (you guessed it, folks) the best of the best in the world of travel; shining a spotlight on the destinations, restaurants, beaches, hotels, and activities that received the highest volume of rave reviews from the Tripadvisor community. Taking into account both quality and quantity of the reviews, the chart-topping spots boast ‘everything travellers are looking for and more’. And out of the 8 million listings on Tripadvisor, less than 1% of them are awarded the sought-after ‘Best of the Best’ status. So yes, it’s a pretty big deal.

London was awarded a sparkly silver medal this year, being named the second best destination in the world (beaten only by Bali in Indonesia). With its historic hotspots, iconic landmarks, delicious restaurants, and picture-perfect pubs; London certainly isn’t thin on the ground when it comes to things to see, do, eat, and drink. According to Tripadvisor, ‘the city’s energy means that no two days are the same’ – a statement that we can certainly confirm is true.

Having nabbed the first place spot last year, London has sadly dropped down a place this year in the list of best overall destinations. But the capital city did manage to get its hands on a different crown, as it was named the very best food destination in the world this year. So it’s not all bad, hey?
