Fresh off the back of being crowned the best city in Europe (again), London is continuing to thrive as one of the most popular places to move to. And look, it’s no surprise that we consider London a bloomin’ brilliant place to live – but clearly we’re not the only ones who think so, because plenty of people are opting for our beloved capital city as the place they call home.
However, if you’re not completely clued up on London geography; the plethora of postcodes can seem like nothing more than a big old jumble of random letters and numbers, right? How do you possibly work out which one is the best?
Well, luckily for us, removals company, Compare My Move, have done the digging for us. Based on which postcode areas the most people moved to in 2023, they’ve revealed which London areas are in fact the most popular – and there were some pretty surprising discoveries.
Top of the London postcode charts is the SE area, with 20.8% of 2023 London movers heading South East. Another postcode area was (extremely) hot on SE’s heels, though. SW came in second place with 20.7% moving there, despite the average house price in South West London being a whopping £437,000 more expensive than South East. Blimey.
Now, let’s get a little more specific, shall we? Controversially, the top area to move to in London isn’t actually in SE or SW. That’s right, the cream of the postcode crop is, in fact, E14. The postcode that encompasses the Isle of Dogs, Canary Wharf and Poplar. Properties in this area are said to be around £175,000 less than the average house price. Not bad, hey?
Walthamstow in the E17 postcode area came in at second place; one of the cheapest spots to buy and rent on the list. However, on the other end of the scale; one of the most expensive areas on the list came in at third: Battersea (SW11).
