London is going to be hot this weekend. If you’ve got no holidays booked for the foreseeable future, you needn’t worry. Why? Because, as this silly (but true as of today’s forecasts) headline reads, our capital is going to be as hot as the sunny beachside city of Barcelona this weekend.
While we may have had a wet and mild start to the week, the mercury levels are set to leap to 25°C on Friday, May 30, which, according to BBC weather, puts us on level pegging with Barcelona at the same time. The following day (May 31), it will rise by a single degree in London to take temperatures to 26°C and go one better than the Spanish city. What a moment, what a win!

People in London will be glowing at this mini victory, but while enjoying this, a smaller portion will be secretly hoping it’s short-lived as they set off for Barcelona the following weekend for the Primavera Festival. There’s nothing worse than the chilling pang of taking a curious, misguided look at the weather back in the UK while on holiday and seeing it’s better than where you are. Still, that bitter feeling would probably be only momentary, leaving your mind alongside your soul when Charli XCX comes on stage.
But before worrying about next weekend’s partying, it’s time to focus on the nearer future which is set to see us have a warmer day than Barcelona, so pack out those parks and don’t think about the fact we haven’t got a beach in our city to take full advantage of at this time of year. Hopefully, it’s the first of many toasty days in the capital to look forward to as we finally dip our toes into the long-awaited lagoon of summer in the city.
