Storm Goretti has brought heavy snow, powerful winds and widespread travel disruption to London, with dozens of flights cancelled and key rail routes running heavily reduced timetables or advising passengers not to travel.
Storm Goretti: what’s happening?
Storm Goretti is sweeping across the UK with disruptive snow, ice, rain and strong winds, triggering Met Office yellow weather warnings and forcing emergency changes to air and rail operations. The severe conditions are particularly affecting London’s main airports and northbound intercity routes, with knock-on delays likely throughout the day.

Disruption on the Rails due to Storm Goretti
The storm is also hammering rail services, with operators trimming timetables in advance to keep reduced networks running safely. Passengers face fewer trains, longer journeys and the risk of last‑minute changes as conditions evolve through the day.
Chiltern Railways
Chiltern Railways is running a significantly reduced service, operating around 50 per cent of its usual timetable in response to Storm Goretti. Only one train per hour is running in each direction between London Marylebone and Oxford, as well as High Wycombe and Aylesbury, with no service on some peripheral routes and no rail‑replacement buses due to road conditions.
London Northwestern Railway
London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway are advising passengers not to travel until later in the day, issuing a clear “do not travel” message for the morning peak. A reduced and amended timetable is in place between Birmingham New Street and London Euston, with some key routes suspended altogether and remaining trains subject to delay or short‑notice cancellation.
Travelling during Storm Goretti
With the picture changing hour by hour, travellers are being strongly urged to plan ahead and stay flexible. Check your flight status directly with your airline and via your airport’s live departures and arrivals pages before leaving home, even if your route is not on the current cancellation list.
For rail journeys, use National Rail Enquiries or operator websites to confirm services, and be prepared for standing‑room‑only on the reduced trains that are running.
Allow extra time for every stage of your journey, build in a back‑up route where possible, and ensure you have water, warm clothing and phone chargers in case you are stranded.
