Now, I know that it’s pretty rare for us to come bearing the news of the price of something in London not increasing. But it turns out that miracles do still happen, folks. Because the Mayor of London has just announced that the capital’s current bus and tram fare freeze is being extended for another four months.
Fares were due to rise earlier this week as the previous bus and tram fare freeze was set to come to an end on July 5. The fare freeze had been put in place as a way to support lower-income Londoners during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis – and was 7th of its kind in the last 10 years. However, Sadiq Khan has confirmed that a single journey on board a London bus or tram will remain at £1.75 until November 1.
Once the extended fare freeze comes to an end, the cost of a single bus or tram ride is anticipated to rise by 10p to £1.85. The daily bus and tram cap is set to increase to £5.55 and come November, a 7-day pass is expected to set Londoners back £26.10. Under 18s will still be able to ride on board London buses and trams for free with a valid Zip Oyster card, whilst under 11s can ride for free without one.
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “I’m pleased to extend the freeze on bus and tram fares for another four months, and will continue doing everything in my power to keep TfL services as affordable as possible, as I know the cost-of-living crisis is still hitting many Londoners hard.”
