Despite the slight identity crisis that the weather in London seems to be experiencing at the moment; the sunny season is within touching distance. And whilst the list of things that make summer in the capital city so darn great is already rather lengthy, I come bearing yet another reason to throw into the mix.
Transport for London and Sadiq Khan have just announced their shiny new ‘Weekend Hopper’ offer that’ll be launching in July. The scheme will allow passengers to take unlimited bus and tram rides (for the cost of a single fare) on weekends throughout the summer, in a bid to encourage more bus travel across the capital.
The Weekend Hopper fare
On weekends between July 25 and August 31, the cost of a single bus fare (£1.75) will allow Londoners to hop on as many buses and trams as they like throughout the rest of the day. The unlimited Weekend Hopper fare expands on the capital’s current Hopper scheme which allows passengers unlimited bus and tram journeys within an hour of tapping in on their first journey. The recently-revealed summer scheme will extend the unlimited travel time limit to cover an entire day on weekends, giving Londoners (and beyond) the chance to affordably enjoy everything that the city has to offer.

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, said “I know how expensive the summer holidays can be for families and my new Weekend Hopper – which is a whopper of a deal – will make it cheaper and easier for Londoners and visitors to enjoy all that our great city has to offer this summer. I know that buses and trams are a real lifeline for many Londoners, and I’m determined to keep them the most accessible and affordable mode of transport in the capital as we continue to build a greener, fairer, better London for everyone.”
Andy Lord, London’s Transport Commissioner, said: “London’s buses and trams are vitally important to helping people all across London get around and visit friends, family, and the vast number of amazing places and events the city has to offer. The Hopper fare has helped revolutionise taking a bus or tram for many people over the last decade and we are delighted to be able to offer a Weekend Hopper fare this summer to further help make public transport affordable and convenient all.”
