Much like myself, London really starts to thrive when the temperature begins to rise and the sun at least attempts to shine. And after a long, cold winter; spring has officially sprung in the capital city. The blossom is blossoming, the sun is (sporadically) shining, and we Londoners are beginning to fill our diaries to the brim with all manner of springtime shenanigans. And if finding the perfect springtime staycation spot is firmly on the agenda, Londoners need not travel very far. Because a recent report has revealed that the very best springtime staycay destination is, in fact, our lovely capital city.
The research in question comes courtesy of credit card company, Aqua, who have recently done some digging to determine where in the UK is the best for a springtime staycation. They rummaged through the facts and figures, taking into account factors including accommodation costs, social media popularity, weather data, and Google search volume. And after all numbers were thoroughly crunched, London came out on top as the UK’s best staycation spot this spring.

With almost 1 million annual Google searches and around 173 million Instagram posts singing its praises; London certainly earnt its first place position fair and square. The research revealed that London has a ‘pleasant’ average April temperature of 9.8°C (not sure that sounds like a particularly pleasant temperature to me, but each to their own, I guess). The data also made it clear that despite hotel costs being a fair bit higher in London than in other parts of the country, the abundance of fun-filled, free activities available in the capital more than make up for it.
So, whether you fancy meandering through a gorgeous park in search of some cherry blossom, perusing one of the city’s many markets, soaking up the sweeping skyline views, or spending an afternoon in a sun-soaked beer garden; London in the spring really does have it all. And it seems as though we’re not the only ones who think so.
