London is officially one of the best places to spend Christmas in the world but sometimes it’s hard to appreciate just how stunning this city is when you walk its rainy streets every day. So why has Conde Nast chosen London to feature on its list of the ultimate festive cities?
Well, it’s no secret that visiting London is on a lot of people’s bucket lists. The gorgeous city of London attracts around 21 million visitors a year (pre-covid figures) and plenty flock to witness the capital in festive decoration.
Around this time of year the city is particularly charming and Conde Nast have detailed where this charm comes from:
“Christmas in London has timeless appeal—chalk it up to the decorated Georgian townhouses, lively pubs, and a dash of Dickensian charm. Our step-by-step guide to spending the holidays in London covers the perfect place for afternoon tea, a steak to tuck into after a day spent gift shopping, and a martini to sip on Christmas Eve—and that’s just for starters.”
We do love a good afternoon tea, and the magazine also mentions one of our favourite things that Dublin has to offer this time of year, ice skating at the magnificent Somerset House.
The magazine’s favourite hotel in London during the holidays is Claridge’s, which is known as one of the best hotels in the world.
Overall, 32 cities across the world feature in the list of best places to spend Christmas, from Vilnius in Lithuania to Quebec City in Canada. New York City is obviously on there, plus Paris and Rome, and then cities like Sydney, where they enjoy warm weather over Christmas. You can read the full article here.
