Having been crowned Britain’s busiest station three years on the trot; London’s Liverpool Street is a hub for hotfooting it around the city. And so the prospect of the station being closed for five days throughout the month of March probably isn’t the most desirable one. The closures in question have recently been announced by Network Rail, and are happening so that essential engineering work can take place to keep services safe and reliable. So, I guess we can’t complain about it too much, hey?
When will Liverpool Street station be closed?
Luckily for Londoners, the closures won’t affect those commuting through Liverpool Street during the week. The considerate folk at Network Rail have ensured that the closures are taking place at the weekends instead. The entire station will be closed on March 15, March 21, March 22, March 28, and March 29.
Which lines and journeys will be affected?

March 15
On March 15, the entirety of Liverpool Street mainline station will be closed and London Overground will be operating some of their services from London Fields instead. Greater Anglia services will be terminating at Stratford. The Elizabeth line’s low-level station will remain open at Liverpool Street but will not be accessible via the main station concourse.
March 21 and 22
On both March 21 and 22, Liverpool Street mainline station will, once again, be entirely closed, with Greater Anglia services terminating at Stratford. On March 21, the Elizabeth line’s low-level station will be open for customers travelling between Paddington and Abbey Wood, but there will be no service between Whitechapel and Shenfield. On March 22, there will be no Elizabeth line service from Liverpool Street at all. On both days across this particular weekend, there will also be no London Overground Weaver line services running from Liverpool Street.
March 28 and 29
You guessed it, folks – on both March 28 and 29, the entirety of Liverpool Street station will be closed, and Greater Anglia services will terminate at Stratford. On both days, the low-level Elizabeth line station will remain open but will not run beyond Stratford due to Great Eastern mainline closures. Across this weekend, London Overground Weaver line services will not be running between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town, Cheshunt and Chingford.

Passengers are being encouraged to check their journeys prior to travelling and give themselves extra time to avoid further disruption to their route.
What engineering work will be taking place?
The upcoming closures will enable essential maintenance, renewals and repairs to take place in and around the station. The planned works include roof renewal and drainage improvements inside Liverpool Street station, track drainage works, overhead line work and redundant structure removals, vegetation management and litter removal, track maintenance and treatment, general infrastructure maintenance, and surveys and inspections of various structures. Blimey, they sure are set to be busy.
Passengers can keep an eye on their upcoming journeys here.
