This summer, the Last Days of Shoreditch really are here…
? That one wrote itself, to be perfectly honest with you. Pop-up stalwarts Last Days of Shoreditch, who have made Old Street their home for the past eight years, are shutting up shop on July 29th. The closure also extends to neighbouring RED Gallery, the pioneering art gallery and creative space that once housed Soundcloud. Bad news all round, then, but at least the venue is running a series of farewell events to numb the pain. (Use this pass to jump the queue and get a complimentary cocktail!)
As with nearby Magic Roundabout, the redevelopment (or skyscraper-led sterilisation, to put it truthfully) of Old Street is the driving force behind this closure, as an 18-storey hotel will spring up in its place. Their run-in with Hackney Council earlier this year probably didn’t help either. At this point, we’ve lost so many London venues that I’m already brainstorming some sort of end-of-year In Memoriam segment. But instead of moping around, let’s enjoy Last Days of Shoreditch whilst we still can.
The closing events will run throughout July, bringing back some old partners for a nostalgic knees-up. Last Days’ summer pop-up The Enchanted Garden continues to welcome guests, whilst the venue will also see 4th July celebrations, the World Cup final, and a food festival, ahead of the giant closing party on July 29th.
Last Days of Shoreditch and RED Gallery are actively searching for a new home, but in the meantime, you’d better appreciate the last days of Last Days of Shoreditch. That name just got pretty appropriate all of a sudden…
You can find Last Days of Shoreditch (for now) at 288-299 Old Street, EC1V 9LA, and the nearest tube station is Old Street. Don’t forget to buy your queue-jump-free-cocktail pass here!
