The works of Austria’s Gustav Klimt are soon to be landing and finding their temporary home in London on July 30. Nestled amongst the iconic Brick Lane is The Truman Brewery, which is as much a part of the history of the road as the brick and tile manufacturers that gave the street its name. Within the old brewery buildings, you will get to see Klimt’s work as you’ve never seen it before at The Boiler House. With tickets on sale now, you can skip the scramble of sorting out last minute plans and even steer clear of the queues when you arrive (if you book VIP).
If you haven’t been to The Truman Brewery yet, be prepared to have your expectations challenged. Whilst the original architecture has largely been kept the same, over the past 20 years, there’s been a regeneration of the vacant and derelict spaces. Today it is a cultural hub for arts and events with various independent businesses and creative spaces across its 11 acres. It boasts an impressive collection of restaurants, bars, shops, businesses, events spaces, offices, workshops and hosts two weekly fashion markets. It also houses The Boiler House, which is home to the East London icon, the Truman Chimney. And from July onwards, it will be the home to a 360-degree immersive experience that brings a touch of 1900s Viennese glamour to East London.
Whether you mosey in after a day of shopping on Brick Lane or the surrounding Shoreditch, you won’t be far from this immersive experience. Just a stone’s throw away from Shoreditch High Street station, the imposing Boiler House will transport you into another world in July and beyond. You will get the chance to almost step into the paintings at Klimt: The Immersive Experience, a multi-sensory, part-virtual reality, and multi-story event. If seeing the work wasn’t enough, you also get exclusive insight into what a day in the life of Klimt was like.
We meant it when we say Klimt as you’ve never experienced him before. The 360 approach to works like The Kiss, The Tree of Life, and Judith and the Head of Holofernes comes with floor-to-ceiling digital projections, virtual reality glasses, and striking sound effects. You will see every brushstroke of one of history’s most iconic artists from every angle in the transformed Boiler House, offering floor to ceiling showcases of Klimt’s work. There are additionally separate galleries that chronicle his life, technique, and influence through informative panels, larger than life re-creations and a one of a kind virtual reality component to view a day in the life of Klimt.
