More KERB-stompingly good food awaits.
Of all the things I’ve missed during lockdown, a banging plate of street food has to be up there at the top. Thankfully, street food markets are making a welcome comeback these days – with the Southbank Centre’s huge one a much-awaited arrival – and now the capital is getting a couple more to enjoy. Street food savants KERB are bringing their excellent food markets to even more punters this year, with new markets planned for the South Bank and Wapping.
First to arrive is KERB x National Theatre, the kind of collaboration we simply love to see. Arriving on April 15 and running through the summer, the market will see five food trucks parked up outside the venerable theatre, with the first lineup composed of Biang Dang, Lords of Poke, Milktree Gelato, Stakehaus, and Baba Dhaba. That’s Taiwanese, Hawaiian, ice cream, steak, and Pakistani cuisine all covered in one lineup, plus a bar that’s being run by Gipsy Hill Brewing Company and East London Liquor Co, which will churn out the craft beer and cocktails.
KERB’s second offering is equally tantalising, as they’ll set up at the base of rooftop bar Skylight, right on the quayside. From May 1, the market will be located beneath the two ‘pirate’ ships of the area, and promises a beer garden feel complete with picnic tables, bunting, and atmospheric lighting. Skylight will also be laying on traditional garden games for us to enjoy, turning the area into even more of a must-visit destination.
As to the food, Fundi Pizza and Tongue ‘N Cheek (who serve Italian-inspired burgers) will take up residence each Saturday in May, and the lineup will change with two new food trucks every month. You can currently book tables through summer until August 7, with the Quayside Bar planning a return on May 17. So, looks like it’s getting even easier to KERB our hunger this summer…
