Londoners may have a bit of a reputation for running to catch the Tube, but that doesn’t mean we’ll run the length of the Tube itself. Well, except for ultra-runner Jonny Davies. He’s been busy plotting a special personal marathon for the last few months. Johnny Davies is going to run the entire length of the London Underground, above ground. Spanning a massive 572km, he’ll run from one station to the next, passing 272 stations in total. And he starts the huge undertaking today, running the length of the Northern Line.
Jonny will be running a tube line a day for eleven days. Naturally, that means that some days will be harder than others. Some days will require as “little” as 30km of running (not including the Waterloo & City line of course, which is basically a rest day). Meanwhile, others—looking at you, Central Line— will see him running a length of upwards of 90k.
Jonny ran the entire length of the Victoria line earlier this year, when he teased the idea for this epic plan in a video he shared to socials.
Unlike Marathon Day, London will very much be functioning as normal around him during this eleven day challenge. This means he’ll be running through some of the busiest streets in the city – dodging cars, commuters and tourists.
Want to keep track of where he is as he runs the tube? He’s posted the plan for the next eleven days, and he’ll have live tracking activated the whole time. That means you can find him and join in, racking up a few miles of your own. But I think I’ll stick to cheering him on from the sidelines…
Jonny will start this challenge on September 7th, and he’ll be raising money for CALM, a charity that stands together against suicide and living miserably.
