If you’ve ever sat in a departure lounge clutching a £6 Pret sandwich, staring bitterly at the delayed sign glowing above your gate – this one’s for you.
According to a new report from AirAdvisor, the UK’s most reliable airline isn’t British Airways, Virgin, or even easyJet.
Jet2 has just been crowned the UK’s most reliable airline – yes, really
Nope – the top spot goes to none other than Jet2, the red-tailed, budget-friendly carrier that whisks Brits away to sun-lounger glory every summer. You’re probably thinking – wait, Jet2? The budget one? Yup. The airline best known for affordable flights to Spain and the Med has just proven that “low-cost” doesn’t have to mean “low-reliability.”
AirAdvisor looked at almost 1.5 million flights across 2023 and 2024, checking who actually gets you where you’re going – on time, and without a cancellation-induced meltdown.
And Jet2 smashed it with 75.8% of flights arrived on time in 2023 (okay, that dipped a bit to 67.4% in 2024, but still better than most). Only 0.02% of flights were cancelled – basically none. And yes, they’re still technically affordable, though AirAdvisor says they cost a touch more per mile than rivals.
Why does it matter?
Because when you’ve only got four days off and your flight gets canned, that “budget break” suddenly feels like an Olympic test of patience. Jet2’s record means fewer frantic airport naps and more actual beach time.
What sets Jet2 apart from its competitors
Reliability like this doesn’t just fall from the sky (pun fully intended). Jet2’s low cancellation rate hints at some serious behind-the-scenes efficiency – extra planes, well-planned schedules, and, we imagine, a whole team of people who don’t panic when the weather turns sideways.
But let’s be real. Even the best airline can’t beat British weather or over-ambitious timetables. Around a third of Jet2 flights still ran late last year – so don’t chuck your travel pillow just yet.
Still, when you’re weighing up your next flight to Ibiza or the Algarve, it’s nice to know one airline out there might actually get you there when it says it will.
