If you’re looking for a truly ‘beautiful’ pub in London, then you won’t need to look much further than Hammersmith. As reported by The Caterer, the Carpenter’s Arms pub in Hammersmith has just been acquired by none other than James Blunt himself.
The pub is temporarily closed as they handle the transition between owners, but is expected to re-open soon. This is now the singer-songwriter’s second pub, as he has owned the Fox and Pheasant in Chelsea since 2017.
The Carpenter’s Arms dates back to the 19th century, and was recently given a full refurb. The previous owners re-did the bar, dining room, and garden area. Now that Blunt has taken the reins, he’ll be working with Fox and Pheasant manager, Toby Milne, on day-to-day operations.
Said James Blunt: “It’s an honour to be the custodian of this beautiful and important local landmark. I know how much it means to the residents, and I hope we can serve them as well as they have been by Jack and his team. I look forward to seeing you there!”
So, who knows, next time you visit, you might spot Blunt behind the scenes. He might even be the one pouring your pint!
Renaming James Blunt’s pub?
If James Blunt does want to rename the pub and slap his own spin on the venue, we have a few suggestions for pub rebrandings:
- The Wisemen (the title of this track from his Back to Bedlam album honestly already sounds like a pub name)
- Cold (Pints)
- Tears and Rain (like Wisemen, this works quite well by itself actually)
- The Bright Star (After his track, One of the Brightest Stars)
- or he could just stick with the Carpenter’s Arms… Yeah, maybe just do that.
I’ve heard tell that when the pub wants punters to leave, they’ll start playing some of the landlord’s most iconic tracks. Instead of ringing the bell for last orders, or asking people to finish up the pub will fill with the sound of tracks such as ‘Goodbye My Lover’, ‘So Long Jimmy’, and ‘Carry You Home’. Although these rumours have not yet been confirmed. (And I’m the one starting the rumour in the first place.)
