Do you wanna build a snowman carve an ice polar bear? Less catchy than the Frozen song, sure; but no doubt a seasonal activity that will bring good tidings this winter.
Crafting your magnum opus out of ice in the form of a polar bear is just one of the activities on offer at the wonderland that is the Canary Wharf Ice Festival, running between November 17-19. For starters, there’s a trail of expertly crafted, chilly ice sculptures to skip through and imagine you’re heading up to Elsa’s palace. Each sculpture highlights an endangered species of animal, and you can visit the trail on the Friday and Saturday evenings.
What’s more, there will be live ice block shows where you can find the ice experts—not mixologists (this time), sculptors—carving out their stunning creations in front of a live audience. Seasonal treats, nibbles and drinks will be on offer, though you may struggle to ingest them after your jaws have hit the floor from watching the masterful ice crafting on display.
As for the free polar bear crafting sessions, they run every day on a first-come-first-served basis over at Montgomery Square and Crossrail Place Roof Garden. If crafting an icy animal isn’t your hidden talent, then maybe you’ll discover your inner ice-Banksy on one of the graffiti walls, where guests can test their tags in 15-minute sessions with the help of professionals.
And, after crafting your polar bear and graffiti masterpieces, you can wallow in the vast array of things to do around Canary Wharf, such as a skating on their fabulous rink or sitting down to order a glass of bubbly on…ice.
