This October, HSBC UK put on two Candlelight concerts in support of housing and homelessness charity Shelter in London and Birmingham, raising an incredible £116,000.
HSBC UK raised the money by donating 100% of Candlelight ticket proceeds and scented candle sales to Shelter as well as matching all donations made on each night.
The first concert saw a stunning string quartet perform classical renditions of iconic pop anthems at the University of Birmingham. Featuring both eighties, nineties and noughties classics, as well as contemporary chart toppers, the setlist truly had something for everyone. Whilst in London, the legendary Melanie C took to the stage in St Paul’s Cathedral, performing more than ten songs, including some classic Spice Girls hits.
After a series of six hit Candlelight concerts across the UK last year, HSBC UK donated an impressive £82,000 to Shelter. But this year, it’s safe to say the bar has been raised, with more than a 40% increase on ticket proceeds.
HSBC UK and Shelter are working in partnership to help people across the UK build financial resilience – support that can help make a difference when the unexpected happens.
Building on the impact of HSBC UK’s ground-breaking No Fixed Address bank account service, the partnership combines housing expertise, community insight, and practical financial support to help people in immediate crisis as well as build a more secure future for those at risk.
On behalf of HSBC UK, Shelter and Fever thank you to anyone who joined us at these very special evenings.
