Harrods looks pretty damn festive at this time of year, and it’s clearly a popular destination for those looking to do some swanky Christmas shopping. In fact, 300,000 people walk through their doors every day at this time of year.
That’s a lot of people. But each one of them can now rest easy knowing they chose the right spot. Why? Because the Knightsbridge shopping palace has just been named the most popular department store in the world, so it must have something about it.
In a new study by FindMyCasino, they found that the beloved department store scored a perfect 10 in their points system, with London neighbour Selfridges taking second place with a 9.49 rating.
Harrods, which opened in 1849, took the glory thanks to racking up an average search volume of 134,000, over 1.5 million Instagram hashtags, and almost 80 million Tik Tok views. Thanks to its history, and boasting 330 departments across the one million square foot space, the department store sailed to top spot.
Despite taking the top two spots, London couldn’t have everything go its way. Coming in at places #3 and #4 were the world-famous Macy’s of New York City and Galeries Lafayette in Paris. The Big Apple matched London with two appearances in the top five, with Saks Fifth Avenue aptly taking that final spot.
London did, however, boast one fifth of the entries in the top-15 of the study; with the iconic Liberty coming in at #8. While it scored a more modest 8.37 overall score, Liberty just so happened to trounce every single opponent – including Harrods – in the Tik Tok department, reeling in an eye-watering 30 billion views.
Harrods has the most Instagrammable crown, while Liberty steals the show on Tik Tok. Whatever your preferred platform it is, London has a treasure trove of lovely department stores to explore this Christmas and shower you in festive spirit.
