The Empress are supporting a self-isolating customer in the loveliest way possible.
One of the biggest upsides of the coronavirus outbreak (and there really are few) has been the sheer number of feelgood stories emerging about wonderful people going the extra mile to support those in need. Step forward Hackney pub The Empress, who chose to help the social shielding efforts of their 90-year-old regular Cyril by delivering a barrel of his favourite beer to his home. With the over-70s being the most vulnerable group in the midst of our current coronavirus outbreak, Cyril had elected to avoid the pub for the foreseeable future. But with isolation being a pretty lonely activity, The Empress vowed to take the pub to Cyril, and so installed a barrel of Truman’s in his garden – so now he can get his daily brew without putting himself at risk. And they threw in a box of crisps too!
We knew London pubs were the finest boozers in all the land, and the efforts of The Empress just prove it. Now, I think we should all aspire to be total legends like The Empress, Cyril, and the trio of ladies who are self-isolating with Netflix and wine. Cheers!
