Last night, a whole load of the country’s culinary connoisseurs gathered in Manchester for the unveiling of the eagerly-anticipated MICHELIN Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2024. A roll call of the UK and Ireland’s best and brightest foodies; the event was extra-exciting this year as it marked the 50th anniversary of the guide.
London, on the whole, did pretty well (not that we’d ever want to show off, of course) and now boasts a whopping 80 restaurants with at least one Michelin star to their name. But one particular London restaurant, Gymkhana, had an extremely successful evening and is now the proud owner of two of those shiny, sought-after stars.
Now, this ain’t Gymkhana’s first rodeo; the contemporary Indian restaurant has actually held one Michelin star for the past ten years. Last night, however, earned them a whole new accolade. Gymkhana is now officially the very first Indian restaurant in the capital city to have received two Michelin stars. Not bad, hey?
Inspired by the elite clubs and high-society playgrounds of India, Gymkhana oozes luxury, sophistication, and some downright delicious food. The restaurant’s executive chef, Siddharth Ahuja, was praised by the Michelin team last night for “exceptional versions of time-honoured classics”.
Gymkhana’s two-star status is reflected in a two-star price tag. The restaurant’s beloved tasting menu will set diners back £110 (or £100 for the vegetarian option). You can still, however, grab their lunch menu for a far more affordable £48.
