When the temperatures start to sky-rocket in the capital, there’s really only a few logical things to do. You can either slap on some sun cream and hotfoot it to your nearest beer garden, or you can dig out your cozzie and find yourself an al-fresco pool to dive into.
Now, if you’re looking for the former (I mean, who could blame you?); allow me to point you in the sun-soaked direction of this handy article instead. If you’re more interested in the latter, however, you’ve come to the right place. Because we’ve discovered a rather wonderful lido, just outside of London, that you’re most definitely going to want to add to you ‘must visit this summer’ list.

Guildford Lido is one of the few remaining traditional 1930s lidos in the UK. Opened back in 1933 in – you guessed it – Guildford, this epic outdoor pool is set amongst four acres of gorgeously landscaped gardens, and is the perfect spot to swim, splash, slide, and socialise this summer.
Guildford Lido
Guildford Lido boasts an Olympic-sized outdoor pool, which is heated to a rather balmy 24°C in the summer months. It’s a great place to cool off on a sunny day, but if you’re looking for something a bit more exciting to do – fear not. Guildford Lido is also home to three water slides (Aqua Splash, Storm Chaser and Twisted Barnacle), and whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a more relaxed-slider; one of them is sure to float your boat lilo.

Little ones need not miss out on the fun, however. There’s a paddling pool for under 9 year-olds which is filled with sensory water features, toys, and mini slides. Guildford Lido has a gorgeous picnic and play area, perfect for chilling out post-swim. And if you’re feeling peckish after all that splashing about, there’s a kiosk on hand to keep you fueled and hydrated.
Getting to Guildford Lido from London
Guildford Lido is approximately an hour drive from London. There’s limited parking on-site but plenty of paid parking nearby. If you’re heading there on public transport, you can hop on a direct and speedy train from London Waterloo to Guildford. From there you can either walk 25 minutes, hop on a local bus, or jump on another train to London Road, which is the closest station to the lido.
