If you’re anything like me, the recent weather in London has inspired many hours of research into holiday destinations for the year ahead. It’s always hard to know where to begin when it comes to planning our next trip, but thanks to research from TravelSuperMarket, the job has been made a little easier.
They have revealed that the most trending island destination for 2026 is Gozo, the second largest island of the Maltese archipelago. Known for being Malta’s more tranquil and greener little sister, the small island has received a + 1703% year on year search increase, making it the most trendy island destination, above the likes of Sri Lanka, Mykonos and Mauritius.
Why Gozo?
For a more peaceful getaway, Gozo provides everything you could possibly need, from its natural beauty, complete with crystal-clear waters and cliff tops, to the history you can find around each corner. It is home to UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ġgantija Archaeological Park, one of the world’s oldest free-standing structures.
As well as being known for its countless beaches, Gozo is also an island full of villages, with gorgeous squares and pretty churches. The Old Citadel, found in ir-Rabat, is definitely worth a visit, and is visible across the whole island. You’ll also want to make time to explore the Mixta caves, which offer a stunning view over Ramla Bay. The stunning architecture made it the perfect location for Gladiator II, which used many locations in Malta and Gozo throughout the film.
How to get there from London
There are no direct flights to Gozo, so to reach this beautiful island from London, first you’ll have to catch a flight to Malta. Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, and Luton all have routes to Malta, and the flight takes around three hours. You can even nab yourself a ticket from Stansted in January for just £16. Once you land, you’ll need to make your way to the Cirkewwa ferry terminal, where you can catch a short car ferry (25 minutes) to Gozo, costing just €6 for a one-way ticket.
Although the journey has many parts, it’ll be worth it to say you’ve visited the most trendy island of 2026.
