Calling all actors, poets, linguists, playwrights, and lovers of the Bard – your chance has come to go back in time and live as Shakespeare would have. For a short while, at least. Visitors to the Globe Theatre are being offered the chance to visit the time of Shakespeare as part of the new Shakespeare’s Globe Story & Tour experience.
Participants will get a guided tour of the world-famous theatre, with Guides bringing the history of the iconic stage to life. You’ll be captivated as they tell you how the Globe survived fire and plague before rising again on the banks of the River Thames in the 1990s. But that’s not all…
Immersing yourself in Shakespeare’s time
Visitors will also gain access to a brand-new interactive exhibition. Here kids of all ages can have a go at creating a thunderstorm on stage as they would have done it in Shakespeare’s time. Or perhaps you’d like to take your chance with some Elizabethan London smelling boxes(!)? You could even live out your stage fantasies as you try on some of the Globe’s iconic costumes and props!
Fret not, though, you won’t need to truly inhabit Shakespeare’s world. There will be no real back-stabbing, teenage love affairs, or witches decreeing the next king of Scotland. At least, we don’t think so… And speaking in old-timey Shakespearean English is wholly voluntary, or so we’re led to believe. But you may end up getting a behind-the-scenes look at an in-the-works production when you visit.
The immersive Globe theatre tour is conducted in (modern) English, with information sheets available in several languages. And they’re pretty well-versed in inclement weather at the Globe, given that they’re an open-air theatre. As such, the tour will take place in all weathers. Make sure you dress appropriately!
The Shakespeare’s Globe Story & Tour experience takes place seven days a week. Tickets are £25 for adults, and £18 for under-16’s.
