The igloo has long been part of the London winter dining roster, but we haven’t yet seen one take out to the waters of the capital to add another floating layer to the whole eating-out order of play. Skuna Boats has now announced the kind of dining experience that is as aquatic as it is dramatically romantic.
Kicking off on November 21, Londoners will be able to take to the waters for an evening of cheese and festive drinks in the igloo setting that floats through the city.
Skuna boats igloos take to the waters at West India Quay at Canary Wharf, where diners will take to their vessel for 90 minutes of floating and eating with seasonal drinks and snacks along the way. Once it’s docked, you will be able to enjoy a fondue feast (with a choice of alpine cheese or chocolate… or a mix of both) with a lovely set of views across the city, whatever the weather decides to do.
If you’re already all booked up for the festive period, you needn’t worry. Skuna boats are running this well beyond Christmas and into spring 2025, meaning that you’ll be able to keep up that romantic floating feeling up well into the new year.
Speaking on the floating igloos, founder of Skuna Tommo Thomson said: “With the Igloo Boat, we wanted to capture the warmth and joy of winter dining in a way that’s completely unique to Skuna. We’ve taken our love for creating memorable, out-of-the-box experiences and combined it with the festive flavours of fondue and stunning views of London. It’s an experience we hope will bring people together, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see it come to life.”
You can book your Skuna Boat igloo via their website, with timeslots available from November 21. You’ll be able to book the igloo for a cost of £45 per person for 90-minutes, with a capacity of 4-9 people on the boats.
