I guess we can now say, albeit with some slight trepidation, that winter in London is over. Well, even if it’s not completely over, we certainly won’t have to endure those cold, dark nights for quite some time. The weather is finally getting noticeably warmer and sunnier. FINALLY!
Alongside the warmer days, the sun just keeps setting later and later, with the first 8pm sunset in London taking place this Thursday (April 17). It’s the surest sign that it’s almost time for the beer gardens, the rooftops, and the flower fields, and to while away the hours in a park, letting those barbecues cook and those picnic blankets wear down.
According to the trusty information given to us by Time & Date, the first 8pm sunset of 2025 will take place on April 17, when it will go down at bang-on 8pm. This will mark the first time the sun has left us so late since August 25, 2024 (nearly eight months ago) when it was recorded going down at 8.01pm.
Last weekend, we enjoyed another couple of days where temperatures were lovely and balmy, though we’d like to see a little more blazing sunshine than we’ve had so far this year. Maybe that’ll arrive alongside the 8pm sunset, though as Mark Corrigan from Peep Show would say: “Chance would be a fine thing!”
After this sunset, we’ll be hurtling towards that sacred 9pm sunset (May 25, if you’re wondering), which is when the city really starts cooking. Just think of how great that sunset is going to look from a viewpoint over the city too. The golden lighting dancing over the skyline as you sip on a drink or two. We simply can’t wait! In fact, we’re already counting down the days.
