For one last time, London will Clap for Our Carers.
It’s been an emotional ten weeks of applauding the NHS staff and key workers helping to see the UK through the coronavirus outbreak, but tonight will mark the final round of applause. Clap for Our Carers, which arrived with whooping, hollering, and pot-banging on March 26, will make a final bow tonight (May 28) at 8pm – but it won’t be the last we’ll see of it.
The Londoner who began Clap for Our Carers all those weeks ago, Annemarie Plas, has signalled her desire for this week’s round of applause to be the last one, as lockdown measures in the UK begin to ease. What began as an emotional outpouring of thanks back in March has quickly become a staple of Thursday nights, as the UK followed the examples of Spain, The Netherlands, and more in applauding healthcare workers.
However, this won’t be the final Clap for Our Carers in the UK, for the plan is to make the round of applause an annual event, one which will forever commemorate the hard work and sacrifices of those working on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic. National Clap For Our Carers Day is slated for Thursday, March 25, 2021, so stick it in the diary and prepare for tonight’s final round of applause!
