There’s something entrancing and exciting about those big ol’ construction trucks and vehicles, isn’t there? Despite being large, heavy, powerful tools with a very important purpose, they also just look fun – especially to kids impressed by their size and (often) bright yellow colouring. Unfortunately, you can’t just jump into the cabin. You’ll need to work your way to a job in construction and undertake plenty of training if you want to hop into the operator’s seat of diggers, dumpers, and excavators. Or… you could go to the construction-themed amusement park, Diggerland.
Not only does Diggerland plop visitors right into the driver’s seat of a whole host of enormous construction equipment – they’ve made rides out of them! You can try your hand at operating real excavators or take a seat and head to the sky aboard the Skyshuttle.
There are also Go-Karts and Dodgems as well as a whole host of other rides. Some classic fairground rides have been given the Diggerland treatment, like the manically whirling Spindizzy and the unique Dig-A-Round take on Merry-Go-Rounds. Altogether the park boasts over 20 different rides to enjoy.
Oh, and if you’re a parent watching eagerly from the sidelines – they’ve got special experiences for you too! Diggerland’s Adult Experience Days allow those over 17 to enjoy thrilling Dumper Racing, or even a Monster Digger experience operating a HUGE piece of machinery.
Visiting Diggerland
Visitors of all ages are welcome at Diggerland, but it’s best suited for those aged 4 and older. As they explain on the website: “Children aged 4 and over can enjoy the majority of our rides and drives. Children under 100cm are free to enter but may have limited access to certain attractions. For those over 100cm, regardless of age, they can enjoy most rides and drives, accompanied by an adult.”
General entry gives visitors access to all of the main Diggerland rides and experiences. There are optional extra experiences – such as the dodgems, quad-bikes, and superdigs – which you can enjoy for £1 per go. Diggerland also features indoor and outdoor play areas, coin-operated rides, a Diggerland Goodie Store and cafeterias with a selection of hot and cold snacks, meals, and drinks. All in all, it’s a great day out for the whole family.
As well as Kent, Diggerland also has theme parks in Devon, Durham, and Yorkshire. There’s even one in America! So if you’re one of our readers from outside London – you might just be in luck with a Diggerland near you.
Diggerland is open 7 days a week through the summer, from 10am – 5pm. It then opens on the weekends in September and October. At the end of October, it will open for the last time for the year for the Autumn half-term from October 26-November 3.
