You’ve probably already seen that David Bowie: You’re Not Alone has transformed the immersive space that is the Lightroom. Since the end of April, a stunning series of projections and concert footage from throughout his life.
But next week, the space will welcome a group of six photographers, all of whom worked with David Bowie and photographed the Starman during different stages of his glittering career. As part of the Bowie Nights series of events at Lightroom, the artists will gather on Tuesday, May 26, to talk about pictures of David Bowie through the years.

Bowie Nights: Behind The Lens at Lightroom
Journalist and author Miranda Sawyer will take the audience through the evening, speaking to each of Bowie’s photographers, who will share some unheard stories and speak on what it was like to work with the singer.
Each photographer will select a set of portraits to present to the audience, each detailing how the shot captures their vision of David Bowie, all while giving personal anecdotes and insight from their work with him. As part of the experience, their work will also be projected onto the four-storey wall, as has been seen through the You’re Not Alone showing at Lightroom.

The photographers speaking on the night are as follows:
- Richard Young, who took photos of Bowie in the Thin White Duke era.
- Kevin Cummins, who documented Bowie on the Ziggy Stardust tour and over many more years, which can be seen in David Bowie: Mixing Memory & Desire.
- Geoff MacCormack, who travelled with David Bowie between 1973-76 and took photos of him in several different countries.
- Denis O’Regan, who became the Starman’s official tour photographer, with his work including shots during Serious Moonlight.
- Tony McGee, who worked with David Bowie for more than 30 years, kicking off with the Serious Moonlight publicity shoot.
- Chris Duffy, who is the son of Brian Duffy, and has preserved an archive of sessions from Bowie, including on Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, and Scary Monsters.
Speaking on the event, producer David Sabel said: “These photographers knew David Bowie at his most creative, and his most vulnerable, helping conjure the iconic looks of one of music’s great shapeshifters. This event will tell the stories of what it was like behind the scenes as the legends of the likes of Aladdin Sane and The Thin White Duke were born.”
