There is something to be said for subdued and quote-unquote ‘classy’ decorations when Christmas rolls around. But there’s also something great about whole-heartedly embracing the over-the-top spirit of Christmas, jumping in with both feet, and absolutely plastering every square inch of space with Christmas cheer. Both approaches have been the case with the Christmas makeovers of some of London’s restaurants, but one place in particular has really gone for an absolute proliferation of baubles: Daphne’s in South Kensington.
Daphne’s’ seasonal change
Daphne’s is usually known for seasonal cooking and warm Italian hospitality: pasta, grilled meats, and a special white truffle menu keep the punters happy. A warm Italian colour palette in the décor complements the hearty dishes, served up in elegant, tasteful environs. However, now that they’ve popped up the Christmas decorations, the focus has shifted quite dramatically away from the food. They’ve festooned the ceilings with a breathtaking array of glittering, multi-coloured baubles that’s a far cry from the restaurant’s usual look. For instance, here’s the before shot of their delightful conservatory:
And here’s what it looks like after the Christmas hurricane has blown through:
If whoever was in charge of decorating this place could pop by and finish hanging my Christmas lights, I’d be much obliged… Whilst the rustic Italian décor is charming enough, we’ve never really been ones for subtlety here at Secret London, so the Christmas transformation easily wins our stamp of approval. Somehow, they’ve even managed to make a horse hanging from the ceiling look festive, yet classy at the same time – it shouldn’t work, but it really does.
Daphne’s has teamed up with the folks at Malfy Gin for a special, Christmassy cocktail range. To sip on one of these delightful libations beneath a canopy of baubles should be a truly memorable experience. Because, you know, the eye-popping assault from above isn’t memorable enough already.
Head to Daphne’s and check out their festive makeover at 112 Draycott Ave, Chelsea, SW3 3AE. Nearest station is South Kensington.
