There is something to be said for subdued and quote-unquote ‘classy’ decorations when Christmas rolls around. But here at Secret London, we’re far more inclined to enjoy it when people whole-heartedly embrace the over-the-top spirit of Christmas, jumping in with both feet and absolutely plastering every square inch of space with Christmas cheer. Both approaches have been the case with the Christmas makeovers of some of London’s restaurants, but one place in particular has really gone for an absolute proliferation of baubles: Daphne’s in Chelsea.
Daphne’s is usually known for seasonal cooking and warm Italian hospitality: pasta, grilled meats, and a special white truffle menu keep the punters happy. A warm Italian colour palette in the décor complements the hearty dishes, served in elegant, tasteful surroundings.
However, now that they’ve popped up the Christmas decorations, the focus has shifted quite dramatically away from the food. They’ve transformed the restaurant with a Renaissance-inspired Christmas makeover that’s a far cry from their usual look.
Daphne’s’ seasonal change
The ‘Nativà Mistica’ decorations have transformed the Chelsea restaurant into a “living masterpiece”. Outside the restaurant, ornate olive trees that have been adorned with silver and pistachio hues greet diners. Upon heading inside, guests are welcomed into a bar area where the ceiling has been completely taken over by Christmassy foliage and baubles galore. The dining room, meanwhile, is full of “resplendent golden brands and celestial angels, conjuring a Renaissance-inspired Christmas oasis in the heart of Chelsea”. It’s absolutely stunning!
For context, here’s what their delightful conservatory typically looks like:
And here’s what it looks like now that the Christmas hurricane has blown through:
If whoever was in charge of decorating this place could pop by and finish hanging my Christmas lights, I’d be much obliged…
Whilst the venue’s rustic Italian décor is charming enough, the Christmas transformation easily wins our stamp of approval. We can’t help but love how over the top it is.
Daphne’s x Malfy Gin
The Christmas transformation sees Daphne’s teaming up once again with the folks at Malfy Gin. They’ve put together a special, Christmassy cocktail range to complement the food. The new drinks range from the Christmas Negroni (Malfy Gin Originale, Amaro, Vermouth, Sloe Gin, and Campari, Christmas Infusion (£16.00) to the Snowman’s Martini (Malfy Gin Originale, Vodka, Lillet Blanc, White Truffle Oil), and beyond. Fancy pairing one of those with the Tagliatelle with White Truffle or the Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli with White Truffle? We’re salivating already at the thought of it!
To sip on one of these delightful libations beneath a canopy of baubles should be a truly memorable experience. Because, you know, the eye-popping assault from above isn’t memorable enough already!
Head to Daphne’s and check out their festive makeover at 112 Draycott Ave, Chelsea, SW3 3AE. The nearest station is South Kensington.
