From hip wine bars and historic wine bars to intimate wine bars and i-really-could-spend-an-awful-lot-of-my-time-and-money-here wine bars; London certainly isn’t lacking in places to go if you want to sip, swirl, and savor a delicious glass of grapey-goodness. But if it’s the largest wine bar you’re looking for, you happen to be in luck. Because we’re about to point you in that very direction.
Tucked away beneath the arches of Covent Garden’s legendary marketplace is Courtyard Wine Cellars. Having only recently swung open its doors, it’s a fairly new wine bar on the block – but has already nabbed itself the title of the largest wine bar in London.
Spanning seven arched cellars, the building itself dates all the way back to the 1830s, and is filled with charm, history, and -most importantly – wine. The 100-seat spot boasts a hefty selection of wines from across the world. With 1000 wines from 100 regions across 10 different countries; there will undoubtedly be a wine to tantalise the tastebuds of even the fussiest of wine-drinkers.
With fully-stacked shelves lining the walls, plenty of nooks and crannies to make yourself comfortable in, and a team of knowledgeable wine-experts on hand; Courtyard Wine Cellars is the perfect spot to spend an evening in the capital city.
A selection of seasonal sharing plates and charcuterie boards are also on offer for when you start to get a little peckish. And there’s a shop for you to peruse and purchase yourself a bottle to take home with you, too.
Whilst just a few feet above, the chaos of Covent Garden continues (some of the seats even offer you a front-row seat to the iconic buskers); down in this cosy cavern, the candles are glowing and the wine is flowing. And we will most definitely drink to that.
