Meet the breakfast recipe that will become your new obsession: Chocolate chip cookie cereal.
We won’t lie, the pace at which new recipe trends arise on TikTok is partly overwhelming, but it’s also become an essential antidote to this quarantine life. The sweet distraction from the repetitive routine, but with a practical outcome—you can eat it. This week’s craze is cookie cereal, which can be traced back to the @dcfoodporn account run by Justin Schuble.
So since time is of the essence, we won’t go into details about the pancake cereal trend—so last week—or the White Claw cocktails that saved us from the heatwave. Or, those countless banana bread recipes that have made our PJs a little snug.
Instead, we will jump straight into the good stuff: How to make a bowl of divine crunchy chocolate chip cookies swimming in a pool of cold milk, with a little help from our friends at Secret Los Angeles.
First, here’s a little teaser to whet your appetite:
Ingredients you’ll need:
- Chocolate chip cookie dough mix of your choice (or your favourite homemade recipe, of course!)
- Eggs, butter (go according to the instructions on the back of your mix)
- Milk to throw your cookies into at the end
Step 1:
Empty the contents of the mix into a large mixing bowl and add the egg and butter.
Step 2:
Fold the mix into the moist ingredients and mix until you have a smooth consistency.
Step 3:
Try and roll them into evenly sized balls, then flatten them slightly on top and add a few extra chocolate chips for A* presentation.
Step 4:
Bake at 180°C for 7 to 8 minutes (7 if you like them to be a little soft).
Step 5:
Let them cool off for a few minutes, so they can harden for a little bit of crunch.
Step 6:
Throw them into a cereal bowl and add as much milk as you desire—bear in mind that leftover chocolate chip cookie milk is literally heaven.
Step 6:
Devour.
Repeat.
