For film fanatics, there are a few screening experiences that rise head and shoulders above others. These include 35mm screenings at Art Deco theatres, IMAX screenings on enormous screens, jaw-dropping 70mm experiences, and live concert performances. And a truly special live concert presentation of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ will land in London next year – and tickets are currently on sale.
On May 23, 2027, two screenings of the film will take place at The O2. Each one will feature a live performance from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The 65-piece orchestra will play the movie’s iconic Hans Zimmer-penned soundtrack in sync with the film as it plays out on the screen.
The movie stars “Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey… as ex-pilot-turned-farmer Cooper, who must leave his family and a foundering Earth behind to lead an expedition travelling beyond this galaxy.” It’s up to his character to “[undertake] the most important mission in human history: travelling beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars.”
The film also stars Anne Hathaway, Sir Michael Caine, Jessica Chastain and Casey Affleck. ‘Interstellar’ received five Oscar nominations, including a nomination for Best Score for Hans Zimmer. It won an Academy Award for Best Achievement in Visual Effects.
Interstellar Live
On May 23, there will be a matinee and an evening presentation of Interstellar Live.
Some special guests are set to join the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for the performance. Acclaimed conductor and Hans Zimmer collaborator, Matt Dunkley, will take the reins in conducting the musicians. And they’ll be joined by Roger Sayer, the organist personally selected by Zimmer to perform the original Interstellar soundtrack.
This isn’t just a live concert spectacular, or an impressive movie-watching experience. This is an arena-level celebration of cinema and music – with some hefty pedigree behind it. It’s also a rare chance to see the film on the big screen, over 10 years after it premiered.
