There’s an intereting time of the year where the city transforms from don’t talk to me about Christmas to becoming a paradise of festivity. And since switching on the lights doesn’t require anyone talking, that’s probably the time you can pinpoint it happening.
Regent Street is one of many London roads that takes on a new life over the Christmas period, providing a particularly angelic set of lights that shine over the city and make for an essential stop-off on your Christmas lights tour. And their stunning – and spirited – display has returned for the season.
Regent Street Christmas Lights
They’ve switched on the lights that make up the glimmering display, and they’re now shining out over the festive season above Regent Street. Each night, you’ll find them lighting up the dark evenings in London with 300,000 LED lights. Turn that glum disposition into a gleaming smile as you amble along through Regent Street, Jermyn Street, and St James’s Market.
The lights at Regent Street are one of the largest displays in the city. They’re also steeped in history; they date all the way back to 1954! A stroll (or bus ride) through the street always proves to be a dazzling experience as you take in the 50 magical ‘spirits’ that make up the display. Head up towards Glasshouse Street, Heddon Street, Quadrant Arcade, St James’s Market, and Swallow Street and you’ll find even more light displays, with these spots lighting up for the second year running after their introduction in 2023.
Adding to the festivity this year is a wishing tree that will also illuminate in the spirit of Christmas. Passers-by will be able to turn the tree’s sparkling lights on themselves by tapping to make a donation to charity The Felix Project, who aim to ensure good food is never wasted and nobody goes hungry.
Find the magical Regent Street Christmas lights switched on and sparkling over LOndon. The nearest stations to see the display are Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus.
