It’d be a pour decision to skip out on this one…
It might be a tall order to claim you’ve sampled the drinks of one of the best mixologists in the world but that’s exactly what you’ll find at Oval Space on Thursday, August 29, at the Chivas Masters Cocktail Clash. Head down for the ultimate whisky experience where you’ll be able to sample original cocktails from some of the world’s best bartenders, who’ll be mixing it up to be named Chivas Masters Global Champion 2019. Now in its sixth year, the Chivas Masters is heading to the capital to find the champion of all things whisky.
So if there’s one spot this summer where you’re guaranteed to find a range of top whisky cocktails, it’s at the Chivas Masters “Cocktail Clash”. Over the past few months, thousands of applicants have been whittled down into only the cream of the crop, and now the finalists will work together in teams to create their own bespoke pop-up cocktail bars. Then, industry tastemakers and the crowd can cast their vote for their favourite bar of the night – and judge the ultimate winner for 2019.
While you’re there, whisky and cocktail fans can experience the spirit of Scotland and journey from where Chivas blended Scotch whisky is made – at the Strathisla distillery in Speyside – to where it is mixed into specially-curated cocktails. Tickets include a welcome drink, complimentary Chivas cocktail at each of the three pop-up bars, and dishes from much-loved London dining hot spots, such as seasonal Scottish dishes from Mac & Wild and vegan street food from Club Mexicana.
And there’s sure to be a buzzing atmosphere, because the Chivas Masters 2019 Cocktail Clash is the last leg of the final challenge. The bartenders will be competing across five days in the run up to the finale at the home of Chivas, the Strathisla distillery in Scotland. There they’ll take part in a series of masterclasses and challenges where their skills, creativity and collaborative nature will be tested, in a bid to prove to the judges they have the right blend to take the Chivas Masters trophy home.
Aside from a bit of national pride, the winning bartender will receive the coveted Chivas trophy to proudly display at their home bar, as well as the chance to recreate their cocktail creations at Chivas events around the world.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Change Please, a London-based social enterprise that empowers the homeless community by training them to be baristas. This startup takes the homeless off the streets and ensures they find housing within 10 days – as well as providing bank accounts and jobs paying the London Living Wage. Change Please won the 2018 Chivas Venture, a global competition that gives $1 million in no-strings funding to social entrepreneurs.
