What do you get when you combine one of London’s most aesthetic and fancy areas with the Christmassy spirit? Well, you get one of the most showstopping Christmas light displays in the city. Every year, this picturesque part of London festoons itself with festive spirit, shining brightly through the night as Christmas arrives in town. And there’s not long to wait to see the sight, with the Chelsea Christmas lights set to switch on in just under two weeks – on November 15.
To celebrate the arrival of the festive season and the lights twinkling merrily on high, Chelsea will be going all out with an area-wide celebration. It’s set to be an enchanting evening with everything from a Christmas market to roaming entertainment, and live performances on stage. And it’s completely FREE to attend!
When the time comes for the switch to be flipped, Father Christmas himself will take to the stage to do the honours. He’ll be accompanied by his special helper, a local child in need of a treat. Together, they’ll switch on the lights, “culminating in a celebration of lights, music and plenty of sparkle”.

The area’s shops and businesses will also be getting in on the action with pop-up stalls and in-store activations. They’ll be offering everything from mystery gift bags to competitions, winter warmers, street food, and more. You can even get a special Ottolenghi mulled wine, or make your own Christmas wreath.
Chelsea will pedestrianise some of its roadways for the evening – ensuring it’s a safe and enchanting night for all. King’s Road will be part-pedestrianised from Sloane Square to Walpole Street, making space for the street party’s attractions.
