We Londoners sure do love a bargain, but let’s face it, they’re pretty hard to come by these days – especially when it comes to London’s rather pricey theatre scene. But we’ve got some utterly show-stopping news for any penny-pinching, musical-lovers of the capital city. New research has just revealed London’s cheapest musicals – and we’re here to point you in the direction of those wallet-friendly West End shows. Jazz hands at the ready, folks.
A study conducted by SeatPlan has analysed the average cost of theatre tickets across their website to determine the most budget friendly musicals in the city. And although, yes, some ticket prices resemble the cost of a small mortgage; others are an absolute steal.
Shimmying in at first place as the cheapest musical in London is Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York). The heart-warming rom-com musical – which is currently playing at The Criterion Theatre – has an average ticket price of just £17.90. A total bargain, as far as we’re concerned. Coming in at second place is Marie Curie The Musical (yes, it’s a thing), with an average ticket of price of £20. And taking the third spot is the new British musical, Babies, with tickets averaging at a very budget-friendly £20.10.
The Kit Kat Club’s record-breaking production of Cabaret tops the charts as the most expensive musical currently playing in London. The average ticket price is a rather hefty £85.10, but based on the rave reviews and the sheer amount of awards it’s won – we’ll let them off the hook.
Commenting on the study, Ben Jackson, CEO of SeatPlan said: “Despite the cost-of-living crisis continuing to hit hard, families, couples, and individuals will still want to go out and enjoy a show. Some may be worried about the potential cost, but fortunately this study shows that there are still plenty of musicals out there with affordable ticket prices.”
