Writing about Build-A-Bear brings back happy memories of when I stuffed my very own ‘Purple bear’ and filled his plushy stomach with a voice box that exclaimed “I love you, Georgie!” when you squeezed it. Sounds a bit weird now that I’m writing it down, but it was cute when I was a dot. Anyway, I digress. What I’m just learning now is that they have a very special Birthday Bear — and the younger you are, the cheaper it is to take home.
The bear is worth £14, but here’s the hack: during your child’s birthday month, you pay only their age for the toy. So, if your child is turning one, the bear costs just £1. Turning two? The bear’s only £2. Obviously only a cool, money-saving tip up until they turn 13 – you’ve been played if you’re still paying your age at 26.
The ‘Birthday Bear’ changes each year, so you could build up a nice collection for your kids – and you don’t have to think of a new present idea every twelve months.
You can help to stuff the bear yourself and, while they’re not included in the offer, you can also choose from a variety of cute outfits for the bear. There’s even birthday hats!
The small catch is that the pay your age birthday month offer is only available in store with the birthday child present, and only to Build-A-Bear Bonus Club members. But the club is totally free to join – just head to the Build-A-Bear website to sign up. You’ll also earn 50 points for every £5 you spend, as well as other perks.
