There are very few things that I enjoy quite so enthusiastically as having a snoop inside other people’s homes. What can I say? I’m an inquisitive nosey girl. And so the fact that the capital city’s grandest gaff is mere moments away from swinging open its (usually firmly locked) gates to the public has piqued my interest, to stay the least.
The gaff in question is, of course, Buckingham Palace. London’s most ravishing royal residence will be opening to the public on selected dates between July 9 and September 27, allowing Londoners (and beyond) to have a very rare peek behind the curtain fancy doors of some of the palace’s swankiest and most secretive spaces.
Buckingham Palace boasts 19 State Rooms in total; each of which are opulently decorated and utterly gorgeous. Guests will have the unique opportunity to feast their eyes on the lavish likes of the Throne Room (which you may recognise as the backdrop of many royal wedding photos), the Music Room (used to host royal christenings). the Blue Drawing Room, the Picture Gallery, the Ballroom, and the Grand Staircase. Each room is decked out with dazzling chandeliers, plush furnishings, and rare artwork.
Visitors can embark on a self-guided tour of the State Rooms but can also opt to add on a guided tour of the East Wing (home to the coveted balcony on which the Royal Family have made many a public appearance) and the picturesque Palace Garden (home to the very tennis court on which King George VI and Fred Perry played in the thirties).
