We’re no strangers to a quirky cocktail here in the capital city, but this one might just take the biscuit. Mixology magician, Jack Sotti, has unveiled a new cocktail on the menu at his Camden bar, Ester. But it’s not just a cocktail. It’s a broctail. That’s right: he’s putting the tender in bartender, and has created a brocolli cocktail that is sure to broc your world.
The cocktail connoisseur (who is also the man responsible for the cocktail menu at Standard Hotel’s swanky Sweeties bar) took to his Instagram earlier this week to reveal his new concoction. Or should I say con-broc-tion? No? Okay then.
It was met with mixed reviews, to say the least, but that won’t be stopping him from serving it up at his very own bar throughout the whole month of December.
Released just in time for the festive season, the ‘broctail’ has been created in partnership with Tenderstem® and puts a superfood spin on the classic margarita. It’s made up of tequila, lime juice, sugar syrup, olive oil, and – wait for it – boiled florets of tender-stem broccoli. Yum yum.
It’s being served up with a side of festive cheer at Ester from December 1 – December 31. A fresh, new bar on Camden’s cocktail scene, Ester can be found inside a Grade II listed building inside the Camden Stables. So us lucky Londoners can try the ‘broctail’ first-hand.
Jack Sotti said: “Christmas cocktails can get a bit ‘samey’ with choices limited to cinnamon, mulled wine and eggnog. It was time for something fresh to shake things up this Christmas, and what better than this tender twist on a familiar favourite. When in my bar, I’m able to get creative with my concoctions. I eat Tenderstem® on a regular basis and thanks to its versatile flavour profile, along with it being sweet but nutty, I thought it would be the perfect centre piece for a new cocktail.”
Sotti is somewhat a star in the mixology world. He holds a whopping nineteen bartending awards from all over the world, including being listed within Bartender Magazine’s 100 Most Influential Bartenders. Three years in a row. So I guess he might know what he’s talking about.
Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it and all that jazz…
