We all know how important The Round is to Londoners. There are rules and etiquette to be aware of when it comes to The Round. It’s important business. But underlying it is the importance of the social aspect of it all: sharing a drink and sharing your time. Now, two twinned taprooms, one in Brixton (Brixton Brewery) and one wayyyyy over in Harlem (Harlem Brewing Company – the first Black, female-owned brewery in America), are offering beer lovers the chance to make that social interaction a transatlantic one with The Beer Exchange. Drinks bought for international beer lovers are accompanied by a personalised postcard. On them you can send a message of gratitude and friendship – even your Instagram handle if you fancy.
Brixton x Harlem
The Beer Exchange forms part of the first ever Brixton x Harlem Festival, which hopes to strengthen bonds between the two communities. Back in 2021, Harlem and Brixton Business Improvement Districts first started the twinning partnership between the two areas. Their special relationship highlights their similarities as historic local areas known for welcoming newcomers, and for being important places for their cities’ Black communities.
Specially for the event, the two breweries have also brewed up a special collaboration. ‘Common Threads‘ is a summer ale packed with pineapple and hibiscus. Bright, vibrant, and delightfully pink, the beer brings tropical flavours ubiquitous in Brixton and Harlem straight to your glass. The beer will be available both at the taproom and on the brewery’s website.
In keeping with the spirit of community, proceeds from The Beer Exchange will be donated to Norwood and Brixton Foodbank.
Celese Beatty, the Founder of Harlem Brewing Company, had the following to say:
“We’re really excited to be partnering with Brixton Brewery on this unique idea. What greater way to celebrate two iconic communities coming together than with a beer that represents what we have in common. The Common Threads beer collaboration and The Beer Exchange both tap into our shared love for community and culture!”
The Beer Exchange will take place as part of the Brixton x Harlem Festival at the Brixton Brewery taproom from August 3-7. Get on down to buy a new friend a pint, and drink beer that does good.
