The Design Museum is set to debut their newest exhibition REBEL: 30 Years of London Fashion in collaboration with the British Fashion Council during London’s upcoming fashion week and on show will be Björk’s iconic swan dress designed by Marjan Pejoski. We all remember it, seeing images of Björk’s showstopping and outlandish swan dress whose neck was wrapped around Björk and came with an accompanying egg that was worn to the 2001 Oscars.
The swan dress will feature alongside other outfits including a replica of Sam Smith’s dramatic all-black custom-made latex balloon outfit by HARRI worn in this year’s Brits, Harry Styles’ Steven Stokey Daley outfit from his video for ‘Golden’, and a Union jack jacket worn by Kate Moss for Vogue. Collections and work by JW Anderson, Wales Bonner, Erdem, Molly Goddard, Christopher Kane, Simone Rocha, Russell Sage, and many more will also be featured.
The exhibition celebrates the 30th anniversary of the BFC’s NEWGEN programme, which supports the best emerging fashion design talent and aims to build global, high-end brands. Numerous young designers who have changed the fashion landscape are featured and will showcase almost 100 innovative fashion looks from ground-breaking debut and early collections of some of the most influential designers. These items will be shown alongside films, drawings, memorabilia and never-before-seen archive material from some of the most well-known contemporary UK-based designers.
Design Museum chief executive Tim Marlow said: “Visitors will be stunned by many of recognisable fashion items, but we hope they’ll also be captivated by the breadth, depth and world-class talent that has emerged from London fashion.”
The show opens on September 16 and will be open daily from 10am-6pm, but will be open late on Saturdays until 9pm. Tickets are available for pre-order now here.
