Here at Secret London, we give our fair share of restaurant recommendations, but we always love it when a celeb from London chimes in to reveal their fave spots around the city, like Dua Lipa did recently.
This week, we were lucky enough to sit down with film star Bill Nighy for a chat, and he revealed to us his perfect London day. It included a visit to a cafe and bookshop, with lunch at Bocca di Lupo, a visit to the Courtauld or the National Gallery to see some art, and dinner at Vasco and Piero’s Pavilion.
His choice of dinner location is a Soho institution, with a lot of history, so we’re giving you all the details on one of the British screen icon’s favourite eateries.
Vasco and Piero’s Pavilion
This Italian restaurant was first opened in 1971 by Vasco Matteucci and Piero Orazietti, and soon became a hot spot for celebrities, artsy types and even politicians.
Although it’s now moved from it’s original location in Soho, having moved to 11 D’Arblay Street in 2021, the history of the place remains. This family-run spot still strives to be true to its roots of serving authentic Italian cuisine in a stylish setting.
Umbrian cuisine
The restaurant specialises in Umbrian cuisine, including handmade pasta crafted with care and classic Italian desserts. Dishes are made from fresh ingredients, and they value tradition rather than following trends in the industry.
According to the restaurant’s history book, they aim to ensure that their restaurant feels more like a “home from home” rather than just a place to eat and go.
This is also mirrored in the interiors, with walls adorned with artwork by Italian artist Giampaolo Tomassetti and handmade furniture.
