The highly anticipated Dune: Part Two will be hitting cinemas next month, and only a handful of screens around the world will be showing it in IMAX 70mm. In fact, there’s only one in the whole of Europe showing it on this print, and it’s right here in London.
The iconic BFI IMAX is one of just 12 cinemas worldwide to show Dune: Part Two in this way, and there will be multiple screenings a day starting on March 1. There’s even one showing kicking off at 00:01 on this date, so you can guarantee you’ll be amongst the first to watch the second part of the saga.
I’m no expert, but from what I can understand, the IMAX 70mm allows scenes to fill the entire screen at a much higher resolution to standard projection formats, expanding up to a 1.43:1 aspect ratio. In layman’s terms: it’s absolutely flipping MASSIVE and will totally elevate your watching experience. Meaning, of course, that you can also up the size of your popcorn order – for proportional reasons.
The movie is the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster take on a sci-fi classic. No spoilers, but it promises epic battles, a bit of love stuff, and some giant worms. The cast features the extraordinary Timothee Chalmet, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Zendaya, and more. Naturally, the visuals are set to be incredible – and even more so on an IMAX 70mm print.
